About Us
Welcome to our site.
Brooks Bits, Spurs and Silver is a family owned and operated business. Started in the late 1940's (making us the oldest shop of it's kind in Canada that we know of) by Roy Brooks Sr. of Cochrane, Alberta. Grandpa's steel work was all hand forged over coal fire and silver was painstakingly handcut ,soldered and push engraved.
The current business is operated by Roy's grandson Richard and his son, Leighton from their ranch near Cayley, Alberta. As with most family businesses Richard's wife Brenda and Leighton's girlfriend Teegan are integral to our day to day operations (someone has to feed the cows while us guys are in the shop!).
Richard does the design work and engraving while Leighton does most of the steel fabrication work. The silver fabrication is split between Richard and Leighton depending on the complexity of the project and Leighton has also started doing some leatherwork that is available on our site. Brenda and Teegan handle the bookwork, website, shipping and help in shop when and where ever needed.
Although we have adopted modern technology (waterjet, milling machines, welders, etc) we still honor our roots of a one man blacksmith/silversmith shop as we build most of our pieces one at a time, with the same attention to detail to provide superior, functional work that could easily be considered art.
Feel free to email us (or call) if you need any info on any of our products.
